RTI Announces the First DDS Plugin for Telegraf Agent

New RTI Labs Project Enables Connext DDS Users to Collect Time-Series Metrics for Improved Monitoring and Analysis

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – April 9, 2019 – Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity company, today announced the availability of a Telegraf plugin extension for Connext DDS Professional. This plugin extension is offered through RTI Labs, a free program that provides RTI customers and users of the Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard with early access to innovative IIoT technology. The DDS plugin to Telegraf stores metrics, events and logs from a DDS system in InfluxDB for visualization and alerts. Developers who utilize this Telegraf plugin can now quickly and easily extract and assimilate this data from Connext DDS into lightweight dashboards for analysis and action.

Telegraf is an agent that enables the collection of monitoring metrics from various sources. It allows them to be passed to various destinations, while also providing plugins for processing and aggregating metrics. It offers a minimal memory footprint with a plugin system that allows developers to easily add support for collecting metrics. 

The Telegraf plugin enables Connext DDS customers to:

• Subscribe to any DDS data: Any DDS topics and types can be defined in XML, and converted to a format supported by Telegraf. Data distributed over DDS can be seamlessly consolidated in a monitoring system built with Telegraf.
• Process and aggregate your metrics: Subscribed DDS metrics can be easily processed, and aggregated with plugins supported by Telegraf for improved analysis and action.
• Ingest to several output plugins: DDS metrics can be sent to several output plugins supported by Telegraf, such as InfluxDB, Graphite, Prometheus and Elasticsearch. This will enable easy integrations of your DDS databus with databases supported by Telegraf.
