Leading Real-Time Data Distribution Service Product Line Extended
Sunnyvale, CA—09 March 2004—Following its record-breaking year in 2003, RTI today announced an important new release of its flagship NDDS middleware. NDDS publish-subscribe middleware and visualization tools reduce cost and risk for real-time, distributed system developers. The NDDS product line has proven its reliability and ease-of-use in a wide variety of deployed systems like Lockheed-Martin's Sea SLICE control system and IPC's Voice-over-IP communications console.
"The latest updates and innovations extend NDDS for customers using newer operating systems and embedded platforms," states Brett Murphy, vice president of distributed systems for RTI. "In addition, we've increased NDDS's already well-regarded reliability and usability. NDDS is used in hundreds of programs and deployed in tens of thousands of nodes; it is field-proven and highly reliable. Our customers, like IPC and Lockheed-Martin, depend on NDDS for their core real-time communications."
IPC Reaches 200 VoIP Calls per Second
IPC is the largest financial trading floor equipment provider in the world. They use NDDS extensively to manage, control and configure their IQMX Voice-over-IP communications console. "NDDS provided the flexibility we required, that no other solution could provide," says John Brennan, director of software development. By using NDDS as the communications framework for all control and status messages, IPC was able to meet the flexibility, reliability, and performance requirements for their demanding application, while also providing a modular and adaptable architecture for their software. A case study on IPC is available now at: /doc/IPC.pdf.
Navy Ships with NDDS
NDDS's reliability and ease-of-use are well established. NDDS has been used extensively in DoD programs. Raytheon used NDDS to power the Shipboard Wide Area Network (SWAN) on the LPD ship series. LPD-17 is at sea having successfully concluded its land-based software integration tests. NDDS also provides real-time publish-subscribe communication for Lockheed-Martin's advanced platform control system - Sea SLICE. "NDDS provides a scalable COTS middleware that is easy to integrate and has proven to be very reliable in the field," states Sea SLICE's lead software engineer. Lockheed Martin chose NDDS after evaluating several products. For more information on Lockheed's use of NDDS, please see: http://www.rti.com/products/ndds/documents/LMCO_SeaSLICE.pdf.
NDDS Middleware and Tools
NDDS was specifically designed to meet the needs of distributed real-time applications. It provides an easy-to-use, efficient, publish-subscribe interface to the underlying operating system, network and back-plane transports. Using NDDS, developers can focus on the application logic rather than the networking code. This greatly simplifies the development of robust, multi-platform, distributed applications. In addition to the NDDS middleware, RTI provides tools to help analyze and debug NDDS distributed applications.
NDDS version 3.1 now includes support for Windows Visual Studio .NET, Solaris 2.9, RedHat 8.0 and 9.0, LynxOS PowerPC, and VxWorks PowerPC405. In addition, version 3.1 increases the field-proven reliability and usability of NDDS rolling-up many enhancements to the successful NDDS version 3.0 offering.
