Bharat Electronics Limited Selects RTI Technology for the Indian Navy
RTI Connext DDS Software Meets Advanced Reliability and Data Connectivity Requirements of Bharat Electronics Limited's (BEL) Combat Management Systems
SUNNYVALE, Calif.—May 24, 2016—Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity platform company, today announced that India's leading defense electronics, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), has selected RTI Connext® DDS as the underlying networking backbone of their Combat Management System, designed to support the Indian government's naval fleet.
The program demanded the use of the Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard to meet the high reliability requirements of its real-time systems, using the technology to automate technical data handling from the ship's sensors and to provide a decision support system for command. The Indian Navy previously relied on the DDS standard to support their other indigenous programs, but this will be the first use of the technology to upgrade India's older and existing surface fleets.
Command Control Management under C4I Systems is a key focus area BEL is considering in futuristic plans by the Ministry of Defense. It's a conscious effort by armed forces to use DDS in upcoming C4I programs. The Indian Navy plans to launch improved versions of the older fleets, already commissioned, with this cutting edge technology. DDS remains one of the key ingredients of their projections and plans.
"The ease of use, flexibility and minimal learning curve were some of the key factors in selecting RTI. This enables us to rapidly develop our application to meet stringent deadlines," shared anonymously by the developers.
"RTI has provided the benefits of DDS to defense systems across the globe with proven experience in meeting the stringent reliability requirements in a mission critical system," said Stan Schneider, CEO of RTI. "Together, BEL and RTI are enabling the development of technologically advanced naval fleets for the Indian government through enhanced and secure data connectivity."
