Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the IIoT connectivity company and DDS Standards Committee chair, joins Avnu Alliance to bring extensive expertise of DDS solutions.
SUNNYVALE, Calif. and Beaverton, OR – December 12, 2017 – Avnu Alliance, the industry consortium driving open, standards-based deterministic networking, announces RTI has joined its membership. A leader in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity space, RTI brings its valuable expertise in data-centric connectivity to the alliance with the goal of interoperable networks for IIoT applications.
In addition to a number of other distinguished consortia, RTI is a chair on the Data Distribution Service (DDS) Standards Committee in the Object Management Group (OMG). RTI has long been a prominent figure in data-centric connectivity and is the primary author of the original DDS specification, a connectivity standard for machine-to-machine and application-to-application data exchanges in IIoT. RTI joins Avnu Alliance with a proposed solution for mapping DDS over Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), an open standard from the IEEE 802 committee. Avnu defines interoperability at the base TSN layer, tailored to each market and tests for conformance to provide a core foundational component of deterministic communication.
"We are committed to improving data-centric connectivity and creating interoperable standardized technology for the IIoT," says David Barnett, Vice President of Products and Markets at RTI. "To further this effort, we have been working on a solution for mapping DDS over TSN with our customers. We look forward to continuing this initiative and formalizing a certification program with Avnu Alliance."
Along with its dedication to DDS, RTI is heavily involved in efforts to standardize connectivity for IIoT applications. This goal distinctly aligns with the central mission of Avnu Alliance, who is devoted to creating an interoperable ecosystem of deterministic synchronized network devices based on open standards.
"Avnu Alliance is eager to welcome RTI into its membership. They have been a leader in the industrial networking space for many years, and their contributions to DDS mapping and the greater IIoT have been vital. The collaboration to bring DDS over TSN will add great value to the industry as Avnu ultimately aims to make TSN an interoperable foundation for any upper layer industrial protocol," says Kevin Stanton, Avnu Alliance Chairman. "The alliance looks forward to both complementing and collaborating their efforts with those of RTI."
