RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 extends the benefits of DDS based integration to the next level—from systems to Systems of Systems (SoS). Featuring powerful new mediation capabilities, it significantly eases integration of large scale, geographically dispersed and disparate systems. This includes those that do not use DDS as their native messaging interface. As a result, RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 provides a unified SoS integration backbone for everything from ultra-high performance real-time systems through legacy and non-real-time applications.
Some of the other exciting new features and benefits in RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 include:
In all, RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 contains over 40 new capabilities. For a complete list, download What's New In Version 4.5.
Quickly build and deploy bridges between natively incompatible protocols and technologies using RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5.
RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 offers new mediation capabilities to bridge between applications that natively support different external interfaces and protocols. Using a new Adapter Software Development Kit (SDK), systems integrators or RTI’s services organization can build and deploy bridges to integrate DDS and non-DDS systems in a fraction of the time required to develop completely custom solutions. Bridges automatically inherit advanced RTI Data Distribution Service capabilities including automatic discovery of applications, data transformation and filtering, data lifecycle management and support across operating systems, programming languages and network transports. With more than 20 new Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), the Adapter SDK provides developers with a flexible tool to enhance the interoperability of their systems.
The Adapter SDK includes prebuilt adapters that can be used out-of-the box to interface with third-party Java Message Service (JMS) providers or with legacy code written to the network socket API. Adapters include source code so they can be easily modified to meet application-specific requirements or serve as a template for quick creation of new custom adapters.
RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 can significantly reduce application source code size and increase performance of applications with more complex data access patterns through support for DDS-compliant Query Condition. With version 4.5 DDS applications can now easily query data from the local data cache using an SQL-based language. This reduces application development time and effort spent on search algorithms and data structures, since it is not needed to keep track of instances in application-level code. When an application creates a query condition, the middleware generates an optimized index structure, which is maintained as new updates are received. This ensures applications gain immediate access to their data of interest.
With RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 applications can communicate securely within the same LAN or across NATs using standard Transport Layer Security (TLS) on top of the TCP/IP transport. The use of TLS can be easily configured using Quality-of-Service (QoS) settings and enables firewall and NAT traversal, secure message and data exchange, and channel and participant authorization.
RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 also supports asymmetric TCP communication across NATs. In this configuration TCP connections can only be initiated from one end-point, while incoming connections, for security reasons, are not accepted.
With RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 applications can be run more efficiently on multi-core processors and Symmetric Multi-Processor (SMP) systems. New QoS policies govern how processor affinity is assigned to threads from the middleware's receiver pool. QoS policies are available that let threads from the receiver pool share the same processor affinity or assign different affinity in a round-robin fashion. This new feature enables applications to optimize CPU cache performance and provides more deterministic response for time-sensitive applications.
This release of RTI Data Distribution Service additionally supports Windows 7 (32/64-bit) and Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) with Visual Studio 2010, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 and 5.5, Mac OS X 10.6 on 64-bit Intel, VxWorks 6.7 on Intel and PowerPC, Fedora 10 on 64-bit Intel, Fedora 9 on Cell BE, and SELinux on PowerPC. RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 also adds 64-bit support for .NET, shared memory transport support for Windows CE and Windows Mobile, and updated database support for Oracle Database 11g, Oracle TimesTen 11g, and MySQL 5.1.
RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 offers many more new features including support for the Java Serializable interface, decoupled send queue and history queue sizes, and various performance and reliability enhancements.
RTI Data Distribution Service 4.5 is available now. Free trial downloads are available for Windows and Linux.
